CSRG

The Computer Science Research Group at the University of California at Berkeley. They were under a DARPA contract since 4BSD and did a number of improvements to BSD Unix. As their last great achievement they freed BSD from encumbered UNIX and 4.4BSDlite2 was ready to be used by anyone. A series of BSD projects arose from this planted seed and most are healthy today.
